Petrol additive?

Maybe a bit of a newbie question but has anyone had any experience of the various engine cleaning fluids that are just added into a full tank of petrol such as 'REDEX' or the many others that sound like they do the same thing? They pretty much all claim to clean the injecters and other parts and claim performance improvement, is this true/worth a go for a tenner? Car is a '98 V40 1.8 Petrol.

Good quality fuel also has the desired effects too...dont rely on these additives ...BP ultimate or Shell already contain suitable additives..

I've used the DX cleaners (engine flush and injector cleaner) made, I think, by Unipart. The injector cleaner is very good and is detergent based, and as such will not damage any components in the way that an acid-based cleaner would. You may have to hunt around for it though, it's not widely available. I normally shove one through every six months.

Hi there, I regularly dose my car with the various products available from COMA oils, Wynns, SLICK and have never had a problem. Mechanics have often comments how clean the engine appeared, obviously not solely down to these products, but every little helps eh
